Gold Rush Adventure Challenge: Dawn to Dusk
The Gold Rush Adventure Challenge: Dawn to Dusk is a USARA sanctioned, 12 hour adventure race based in Sausalito, California. Teams navigate by map and compass only; GPS devices are not allowed. The course moves through the Marin Headlands and across the waters of San Francisco Bay, including a paddle segment that visits Angel Island.
Teams of 1 to 4 racers travel between checkpoints by trekking, mountain biking, and paddling. Each team receives a map and chooses which checkpoints to collect; each checkpoint carries points and teams must return before the 12 hour cutoff. A central transition area in Sausalito functions as race headquarters and allows teams to change gear, regroup, and refuel from prepared transition area bins.
Distances vary with route choice but the course is roughly composed of:
- Paddle: about 6 miles, boats provided
- Mountain bike: about 30 miles, bring a mountain bike and helmet
- Trek / run: about 14 miles
All boats are provided and teams must be self-supported between transition areas; there are no aid stations on course. A mandatory gear list and final race details are provided before race day. Navigation and teamwork are emphasized, and the route offers multiple strategic choices across land and water in the Sausalito and Marin Headlands area.
