Event overview

The Gold Coast Backyard Ultra is an endurance running event on Friday 13 March 2026 at Doug Jennings Park, Main Beach (The Spit), Gold Coast. The format uses a repeated loop or "yard" of approximately 6.7 km. Each yard begins on the hour and must be completed within the hour; failure to finish a yard, to start the next yard, or choosing to stop results in elimination. The event continues until only one runner remains. Distance is not fixed.

Course and race features

The marked course mixes road, grass, trail and beach surfaces. Reported elevation change for the loop is about 16 m ascent and 19 m descent. The event includes a communal marquee with snacks and hydration supplied by sponsors, a recovery zone with ice baths and foam rollers, and on-site photography for competitors. Organisers plan a live DJ during the event.

Entry and prizes

Entries are limited to 300 places. Tiered entry fees are stated as $220 for the first 100 entries, $240 for the next 100, and $260 for the final 100. Finishers receive a medal. Runners who complete more than 24 yards (about 160 kilometres) are entered into a sponsor prize draw. The event is presented by Project Run. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
