Event overview

The Gold Coast Backyard Ultra is scheduled for Friday, 13 March 2026 at Doug Jennings Park, Main Beach on The Spit, Gold Coast. The event is presented by Project Run and is described as an inaugural backyard ultra with an unlimited total distance and a field capped at 300 entries.

Race format

The race follows the backyard ultra format. Each loop, called a yard, is 6.71 km. Runners have one hour to complete each yard and must start the next yard each hour to continue. The race continues until only one competitor remains.

Course and services

The course will be fully marked and combines road, grass, trail and beach surfaces. Elevation for the loop is listed as 16 m ascent and 19 m descent. A GPX file will be available if preferred.

Entry fees are tiered: $220 for the first 100 entries, $240 for the next 100, and $260 for the final 100 entries. Included with entry are a finishers medal, race day photos, communal snacks and hydration, a recovery zone with ice baths and foam rollers, and event music. Runners who complete more than 24 yards (160 kilometres) are entered into a draw for a sponsor voucher. Prizes are planned for the last person standing.
