GMAA Turkey Trot 5K
The GMAA Turkey Trot 5K is a community running event held at the University of Vermont in Burlington. Participation is open to individuals of all ages and includes a standard distance and a separate event for children. This race serves as a fundraiser for Feeding Chittenden, formerly known as the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf. Participants are encouraged to provide a suggested monetary or food donation.
The event features the following distances:
- 5 km
- 1/4 mile (Kids race)
The 5 km course consists of a loop on the UVM women's cross-country course. The terrain includes a mix of cinder paths, paved sections, grass, and some single-track segments. The race takes place regardless of weather conditions, including rain or snow. For safety reasons, the use of headphones is strongly discouraged, and strollers, bicycles, and pets are prohibited on the course.
While the race includes a large clock for timing, only the top 10 finishing times are officially recorded. Following the run, a raffle of prizes is held for all participants and volunteers. Walkers are welcome to participate and are asked to position themselves at the back of the starting group. Indoor facilities at the Gutterson Field House are available for registration, though specific health protocols such as masking or vaccination proof apply to those entering the building.
