About the race
Glendalough Lap of the Gap is a road running event organised by Glendalough AC in Laragh, County Wicklow, held inside Wicklow Mountains National Park. The programme for 2027 includes two distances:
- 42.2 km with about 800 m of climbing
- 21.1 km with about 340 m of climbing
The marathon route leaves the Upper Lake valley at about 130 m and climbs continuously through Glenmacnass, crosses the exposed Sally Gap, passes Lough Tay and descends to finish in Laragh village. The half marathon is a lap of the Upper Lake park, includes the climb to the waterfall, and follows a long descent to Laragh. The marathon field is capped; organisers limit entries and release places in phased pricing. Race headquarters are at the Upper Lake Park where registration, bag drop and facilities are provided; the start is a short walk from headquarters and the finish is in Laragh. Aid stations are provided at set intervals with semi self-sufficiency on higher ground. The event is run with the permission and support of local residents and park authorities.
