Glendalough Lap of the Gap Marathon
The Glendalough Lap of the Gap Marathon is billed as Ireland's highest road marathon and takes place in the Wicklow Mountains National Park around Glendalough, Laragh, County Wicklow. The 10th edition is scheduled for Saturday 22nd of May 2027. The event is organised in support of Glendalough Athletics Club and other local sports clubs.
The race was created in 2016 and is a road race that offers extensive mountain scenery and sections that resemble trail running. Past participants describe gradual inclines, hill sections and a waterfall near the half-marathon turnaround. Event reports also note marshals on the route and volunteer support at key points.
Practical entry information includes tiered ticket pricing from €35.00 to €70.00 across five ticket tiers, from Super Early Bird to Last Minute Entries. The organiser operates a no refund policy after a 24 hour cooling off window but allows deferral of entry to the next year or a name change. A downloadable Competitor Handbook and a news page provide consolidated pre-race and race day information. Participants have commented positively on parking and coach services that eased travel to the start and on post-race items such as t shirts and refreshments.
