Gladstone 9 Fell Race
The Gladstone 9 is a fell race of approximately 14.5 km / 9 mi with about 855 m of ascent. It is based at The Gladstone, Ysgubor Wen Road, Dwygyfylchi, near Penmaenmawr (LL34 6PS; GR SH729772). A course map is provided by the organiser.
The route runs over upland moorland and open fell with largely rough tracks and runnable off‑track sections. Heights on the route reach about 600 m. Runners should expect occasional moderate exposure and terrain risks. Navigation skills and competent mountain skills are required; waymarking may be partial and runners must be confident in self navigation. Some escape routes exist but retiring or injured runners may face difficulty in some sections. Weather can change suddenly and may significantly affect the route.
Entry is available online for a stated fee of £9, with a reduced fee for WFRA members, and an entry on the day fee of £11 if the entry limit of 100 has not been reached. Entries include a soup and roll at the venue and electronic timing. A cut off time will be in force at CP2; exact details will be confirmed before the event. Minimum age is over 18; experienced 16 and 17 year olds may be considered during online entry.
Travel guidance requests car sharing, careful parking and use of alternative roads where possible. Penmaenmawr train station is about a 10 minute walk from The Gladstone. Parking at the FOC station car park or the FOC village carpark, which is about a 15 minute walk, is suggested. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
