Girls on the Run Worcester County 5K Celebration
The season-ending celebratory 5K takes place as the Fall 2026 closing event at Polar Park in Worcester, MA. The event is designed to give program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment by completing a 3.1 mile course. Every registered participant who completes the 5K receives a commemorative medal, and participants registered during the early period are guaranteed a GOTR 5K t-shirt.
The council handles registration for program participants and their coaches; these individuals do not need to register separately. Community runners may register and pay a fee that varies by registration period. All participants must have a Running Buddy for the entire course; Running Buddies are typically family or designated adults and must pass a background check unless appointed by the family. For safety, every participant must wear a race bib, the course is monitored with head counts, and a safety plan trains staff and volunteers to respond to incidents.
The event includes additional activities such as face painting, happy hair stations, water stops, and merchandise sales. The course is accessible for participants who walk, run, push, or roll, and designated parking spots are available. Volunteers are recruited for roles including first aid, course marshals, merchandise, check-in, and activity stations, with age or certification requirements for certain positions.
