Girls on the Run Washington DC 5K
This event is a celebratory 5K that concludes a Girls on the Run season. It is a non-competitive closing event for program participants and community runners that aims to give participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The course is a flat 1.55 mile loop completed twice for a total of 3.1 miles.
The event is open to program participants and to family, friends, and community members who register. Girls on the Run program participants receive a finisher's medal distributed by coaches after the race. Non-program participants receive a race premium at packet pick-up. The 5K is not timed and participants are encouraged to walk, run, push, roll, or skip at their own pace; many finish between roughly 30 and 50 minutes, while the fastest finishers complete the course in about 25 minutes.
The Fields at RFK is the listed venue. The Stadium-Armory Metro stop on the Blue and Orange lines is the nearest rail access and the venue is about a 10 minute walk from that stop. Free parking is noted onsite at Lot 6 and a free parking garage is available at the Anacostia Metro Station; vehicles may be unable to exit the lot while the event is in progress.
Packet pick-up is offered on race day and there is an option to have a bib mailed in advance for an additional fee. The event is scheduled rain or shine, with potential delays or cancellation if severe lightning or storms threaten safety. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
