About the race
The Girls on the Run Memphis 5K Celebration is a season-closing community event held at the University of Memphis Alumni Mall. The event marks the end of the program season with a celebratory 5K that gives participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The 5K is non-competitive and untimed; some participants finish in about 25 minutes while many take 30 to 50 minutes, and all are encouraged to move at their own pace.
Pre-race and post-race activities take place on the Alumni Mall and include a Fun Zone with music from a DJ, face paint, braids and glitter, a nail bar, a photo booth, an Inspiration Station, and other family-friendly activities. A group warm-up is led by a local coach and there is a color guard presentation during the event program. All program participants receive a commemorative 5K medal and a race bib.
Registration details distinguish between program participants and other attendees. Girls and coaches in the program do not need to register for the 5K. Individuals who wish to run or walk the 5K, including 5K Buddies who accompany participants, must register and sign the standard liability waiver. Race shirts are not included with general registration but are available for purchase; program participants receive shirts through the program.
