Girls on the Run Memphis 5K Celebration
Girls on the Run Memphis holds a seasonal closing event at the University of Memphis Alumni Mall where program teams complete a 5K (3.1 miles) course together. The event is non competitive and not timed; the emphasis is on finishing the course and on the sense of accomplishment that comes with crossing the finish line. All registered 5K participants receive a commemorative 5K medal.
Pre and post race activities take place on the Alumni Mall and at the Overton Park Shell. A community Fun Zone includes music from a DJ, a group warm up led by staff, activity booths such as face paint, a nail bar, braiding and glitter services, a photo booth, an Inspiration Station, and other family friendly attractions. Packet pick up is offered the day before at Fleet Feet on Poplar Avenue and on event day at the University of Memphis Alumni Mall. Girls on the Run program participants receive their shirts and bibs through their practice the week before the event; other participants may purchase race shirts during online registration at listed prices.
The event welcomes individuals of all gender identities and physical abilities; the course is accessible for walking, rolling, pushing or running. Every participant must wear an event bib and sign a liability waiver. Pets are not allowed. Volunteer registration opens in October and sponsorship opportunities are available.
