About the race
Girls on the Run DFW 5K is an end of season, celebratory event held on November 14, 2026 at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, TX. The event gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment by completing a commemorative 5K course and receiving a medal.
The 5K course is 3.1 miles. The event is presented as a fun, noncompetitive celebration; while the fastest participants may finish in about 25 minutes, most finish between 30 and 50 minutes. Participants are encouraged to walk, roll, push, run or skip at their own pace. Program participants and coaches are registered automatically; running buddies, family members, and community participants must register and pay the posted registration fee.
Safety and logistics measures include required race bibs, assignment of a running buddy for each participant, course monitoring and head counts, and a council safety plan that trains staff and volunteers. Program participants meet their coaches under their team sign to receive bibs and race packets. The course and event are described as accessible for people with disabilities, with designated parking spots available.
The event includes additional activities such as face painting, merchandise sales, water stations, happy hair, and food and water at the finish. Volunteers are recruited for set up and tear down, parking, registration, course monitoring, water stations, cheer stations, happy hair, and finish line support. The council may use site based, external community, or virtual 5K formats. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
