Girls on the Run CVABR Lynchburg 5K: 5K Celebration
This is the Greater Lynchburg Fall Season celebratory 5K for Girls on the Run Central Virginia and Blue Ridge. The event closes the season and gives program participants of all abilities a tangible sense of accomplishment. Every registered participant who completes the 5K receives a commemorative medal.
The course distance is 5K (3.1 miles). The event includes water stations, happy hair stations, photo opportunities, merchandise for sale, and other pre-race activities. The council requires liability waivers for all registered runners and issues race bibs for safety and identification. The council monitors the course, conducts head counts, and maintains a safety plan that trains staff and volunteers to respond to incidents.
Parking for participants and spectators is at Amherst County High School with shuttle service to Sweet Briar College campus; volunteer, sponsor, and coach parking is available on-site at Sweet Briar College. Handicap parking is available on-site with valid tags. Participants are asked to arrive early to warm up and complete check-in procedures.
Community members, family, and friends may participate but must register. Program participants and coaches are pre-registered and do not need to register separately. Volunteers support set-up, registration, check-in, merchandise, pre-race activities, course monitoring, cheer stations, water stations, and tear down; volunteers appointed through the council undergo a background check.
