Gila 100

The Gila 100 is New Mexico's only 100 mile trail race held on National Forest land in the Gila National Forest. The event uses an out and back course with views in both directions. Trails traverse rugged ridges, deep canyons, open meadows, and cool forests, giving a mix of ecosystems that supports year-round running. Seasonal conditions vary: spring and fall bring crisp mornings and sunny afternoons, summer can include monsoon storms with lightning and flash flooding risk, and winter can leave higher elevations with snow while lower routes remain runnable.

Some aid stations and logistics are in remote backcountry locations. Key aid access roads can be rough and high clearance or 4WD is recommended. Events are held on National Forest land outside designated Wilderness boundaries to allow aid, safety, and logistics without pushing impact into Wilderness areas. Crews are asked to remain at specific aid locations rather than leapfrogging to reduce traffic, dust, and congestion on access roads.
