Germanfest 5K Run/Walk/Dash
The Germanfest 5K Run/Walk/Dash is an annual community race held in Guttenberg, Iowa, beginning at 131 S River Park Dr in front of the Guttenberg Area Veterans Memorial at the intersection of Main Street and River Park Drive. The course follows Guttenberg's riverfront and offers views of the Mississippi River and Lock & Dam No. 10. Proceeds from the event benefit the GMHC Family Resource Center Endowment.
The event program includes a kids inflatable dash for children ages 8 and under and an officially timed 5K for runners and walkers. Registration for the 5K includes a GMHC goody bag and a listed fee of $28.45. The kids dash is free for ages 8 and under.
Post-race activities take place as part of GermanFest and include authentic German food and beer, polka music, an open-air arts and crafts market, wiener dog races, beer tasting, and other family-oriented activities. Awards are presented to the top overall female and male finishers and first place medals are given in age divisions: 14 and under, 15 - 19, 20 - 29, 30 - 39, 40 - 49, 50 - 59, 60 - 69, and 70 and over.
