About the race
The Germanfest 5K Run/Walk/Dash in Guttenberg, Iowa, is a community road event held along the Mississippi River and Lock & Dam No. 10. The course begins in front of the Guttenberg Area Veterans Memorial at the intersection of Main Street and River Park Drive and follows the town's riverfront.
The event includes two distance options:
- 5K
- Kids Fun Run (ages 8 and under), free
A children's inflatable dash takes place before the 5K, with a separate course through the park featuring giant inflatables. Registration for the 5K includes a GMHC goody bag; the listed fee for the 5K is $28.45 (shown as $25.00 plus processing and taxes). Proceeds from the event support the GMHC Family Resource Center Endowment.
Post-race festival activities are part of GermanFest and include authentic German food and beer, polka music, an open-air arts and crafts market, wiener dog races, beer tasting, and other family-friendly activities. Awards include trophies for the top overall female and male finishers and first place medals in age divisions: 14 and under, 15 - 19, 20 - 29, 30 - 39, 40 - 49, 50 - 59, 60 - 69, and 70 and over.
