Geaux Bald 5K & 10K
The Geaux Bald 5K & 10K is a student-led charity race organized by second-year medical students at LSU Health Shreveport. It started in 2011 and raises funds to ease financial and logistical burdens for local cancer patients and their families.
All proceeds from the race go directly towards the restoration of the McDade House, a hospitality home. This home will provide low- or no-cost lodging for patients receiving care at the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center. In the 2024–2025 year alone, the event raised over $50,000 for this cause.
The event takes place at A.C. Steere Park in Shreveport, Louisiana. It features three participation options:
- A 5K race.
- A 10K race.
- A Phantom Runner option for those who wish to support the cause remotely and receive a t-shirt.
Awards are given to the overall male and female winners and runners-up in both the 5K and 10K. Awards are also presented for first and second place male and female finishers in various age groups, as well as for the largest team.
Race packet pick-up is available at Sportspectrum on Fern Avenue on the Thursday and Friday before the race. Packets are also available at the race site on the morning of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
