GCR Thanksgiving Race
The 13th Annual GCR Thanksgiving Race takes place in downtown Naples, Florida. This event includes several distances and formats to accommodate different types of participants, including runners, walkers, and children. The course starts on 5th Avenue and winds through the downtown area. The course remains open for 90 minutes.
Available event distances include:
- 5K Run/Walk (3.107 miles)
- 1 Mile Walk
- Kids 1K
- Kids 100 Yard Dash
Participants in the 5K and 1 Mile Walk receive a race shirt and a finisher medal. Walkers, strollers, and dogs are permitted to participate and are asked to start near the back of the group. While there is one official start, chip timing ensures that a participant's time does not begin until they cross the start line.
The kids' events are free of charge. Children receive medals, though these may be from previous editions of the event, and shirts are not included for these specific categories.
The event serves as a benefit for St. Matthew's House and a local Youth Development and Scholarship Fund. Organizer activities include a canned food drive, and participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to the registration area or during packet pick-up.
Logistics include several four-story parking garages located within 200 meters of the packet pick-up area, offering free parking. Packet pick-up is available on the Tuesday and Wednesday before the race at a local running store, as well as on the morning of the event. There is no race day registration.
