Ultra Wales 50
Ultra Wales is a 51 mile trail and mountain race held in Southern Snowdonia with 2,898 m of total ascent. The 2026 event is the seventh edition and is based at Coed-y-Brenin Visitor Centre near Dolgellau. The course includes sections on and around Cadair Idris Penygader (893 m) and Rhinog Fach (712 m), passes Dolgellau and the Barmouth estuary, and runs through Coed-y-Brenin forest.
The event is limited to 500 places and has an overall cut-off of 20 hours. There are six checkpoints on course that provide refreshments including water, cola and hot and cold food, plus medical or first responder cover. Live online GPS tracking is provided via GB Race Tracker and a GPS tracker is part of the mandatory kit.
Entrants must be at least 20 years old, in good health, and must have completed an organised marathon distance event prior to race day. No pacers or support runners are permitted. Drop bags are not allowed and there is no facility to leave a bag at the start or finish.
Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and includes a hardcopy map, waterproof coat with sealed seams, baseplate compass, whistle, long sleeved base layer in a drybag, at least 1 litre of water capacity, a fully charged mobile phone, survival foil blanket, primary and secondary lights, and the race GPS tracker provided by the organisers.
Parking is available at Coed-y-Brenin Visitor Centre and is chargeable. Overnight vehicle stays are permitted in the overflow car park but tent camping, fires and barbecues are not allowed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
