Gateway Track Mile
The Gateway Mile is a running event held at the Gateway Middle School Track in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. The competition focuses on a standard track mile, which consists of four laps plus an additional 9.344 meters. To assist participants with their pacing, splits are provided at every 440 yards during the race.
The event organizes participants into several heats based on anticipated finish times to ensure runners of similar speeds compete together. These heats are structured across different time brackets:
- Sub 5:00
- 5:00 - 5:44.9
- 5:45 - 6:39.9
- 6:40 - 7:59.9
- 8:00 - 9:59.9
- 10:00+
The final number of heats is subject to adjustment based on the total number of participants present. Refreshments are provided for those in attendance.
The event includes a prize structure for top finishers. Monetary awards are available for the first, second, and third-place overall male and female runners. There are also specific prize categories for the Master's division (ages 40 and over) and the Grand Master's division (ages 50 and over). Additionally, performance incentives are offered for runners who better the last listed time in their division or break established records.
