Event Overview

The Furty Furlong is an off-road running event held in Mapplewell, Barnsley. The race takes place within the private grounds of Mapplewell Meadows Farm and covers a distance of 3.75 miles, which is equivalent to 30 furlongs. The course is a single-lap cross-country route that features a hilly profile and scenic surroundings.

Course Details

Participants run on a surface consisting mostly of grass with some sections of gravel and shale. The terrain is described as hilly and may be muddy regardless of the time of year. Due to the nature of the off-road terrain, the course is not suitable for wheelchairs. There are no distance markers along the route.

Facilities and Logistics

Race headquarters is located at the View Cafe on-site, where participants can collect their race numbers. The farm provides on-site parking and encourages car-sharing among attendees. While water and toilets are available, the venue does not have changing facilities, showers, or baggage storage. Food and drinks are available for purchase at the cafe before and after the event. Limited motorhome and caravan pitches are also available at the farm by arrangement.

Participation and Awards

The event is open to runners aged 14 and over. Prizes are awarded across several age categories for men and women, ranging from senior levels to veterans over 70. There are also awards for the first unattached runner and specific trophies for corporate teams consisting of three members.
