Event Overview
The Frugal Frolic 5k (Lucky Leprechaun) is a running event held at Colby Lake Park in Woodbury, Minnesota. The course consists of a scenic 5 km loop encircling Colby Lake. This is a budget-friendly event that prioritizes communal activity and does not provide traditional race swag such as t-shirts. Participants must register online as the event operates on a cashless basis.
Available distances include:
- 5 km (Standard or Prediction format)
- 1 km (Kids event)
Race Formats
Participants in the 5 km can choose between two different formats. The standard option is a traditional race where the first person to cross the finish line is the winner. The "Lucky Leprechaun" edition is a prediction race where runners submit their estimated finish time during registration. In this category, the winner is the person who finishes closest to their predicted time without going over. Participants in the prediction race are prohibited from using watches, phones, or other timing devices.
Logistics and Safety
The race is self-supported, meaning there are no aid stations along the course; participants are responsible for their own water and nutrition. The route remains open to the public, requiring runners to be courteous to other pedestrians. While pets are not permitted due to trail congestion, strollers are allowed if they remain at the back of the field.
Parking is available at Colby Lake Park in two separate lots, with additional overflow parking located at Valley Crossing Elementary School. The event utilizes chip timing to record official start and finish times. Post-race activities include music and light snacks near the finish line.
