Event overview
The Frozen Goat Loop Event is a trail running event in North Park, Wexford, PA (1200 Pearce Mill RD). It is organized by the North Park Trail Runners and is explicitly not a race. Terrain is dirt trails with rocks and roots; weather may bring cold temperatures, rain or snow, and participants should expect possible mud and ice. Check-in and the start/finish area for loop options are on the second level of the North Park Ice Rink. Maps and route links will be available there. Runners may leave personal belongings and coolers in the building; alcoholic beverages are allowed.
Event options and logistics
- 5, 10, 15, 20 miles via one to four loops, each about 5 miles
- 20-25 miles continuous, self-supported, unmarked route
The Goat Loops option uses color-coded, flagged, mapped loops that begin and end at the Ice Rink building. Participants have a six-hour window to complete one to four loops and receive a card to mark completed loops. Indoor breaks are available between loops with pastries, food, and coffee. Certificates are awarded by distance completed: Baby Goat (1 loop), Kid Goat (2 loops), Mountain Goat (3 loops), and Frozen Goat (all 4 loops or the full continuous route). The continuous 20-25 mile option follows a different course, is self supported and unmarked, follows a GOAT lead, and is intended to be near a 13-minute mile trail pace or faster. A chili/soup cook-off with limited entries and voter awards is part of the event. Open to ages 18 and older. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
