YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Turkey Trot presented by UPMC Health Plan
The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Turkey Trot is an annual Thanksgiving Day running event presented by UPMC Health Plan and produced with P3R. The event supports YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, and accepts non-perishable food and monetary donations at YMCA locations, packet pickup, and on race morning. Since 2020 the YMCA has distributed over 120 tons of food to local neighborhoods.
The event offers multiple distances:
- 5 Mile
- 5K
- 1 Mile Family Fun Run
- Double Gobble (5 Mile + 5K)
Registration policies and participant provisions are age-specific: registrants 4 years and younger may participate free with registration, and participants aged 5–18 receive a 50% registration discount. The minimum age for the 5 Mile and Double Gobble is 12; there is no minimum age for the 5K and the 1 Mile Family Fun Run. All registered participants receive a race bib and a performance long-sleeve shirt.
Event operations and safety notes include a course pace limit of 20 minutes per mile, no gear check with bags not permitted inside the start corral, and stroller use and dogs limited to the one-mile event. Water and bananas are the only items handed out on course. The organizer maintains a zero-tolerance policy against discrimination and harassment.
