YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Turkey Trot
The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Turkey Trot is an annual Thanksgiving Day community running event organized with P3R that benefits YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The event includes multiple distances and a family-focused atmosphere.
Distances offered:
- 5 Mile
- 5K
- 1 Mile Family Fun Run
- Double Gobble (5 Mile + 5K)
Registrants 4 years and younger may participate free of charge (registration required). Runners aged 5 to 18 receive a 50% discount on their chosen distance. The minimum age for the 5 Mile and Double Gobble is 12 years; there is no minimum age for the 5K and the 1-Mile Family Fun Run. All registered participants receive a race bib and a performance long-sleeve shirt designed by a Pittsburgh artist.
Event logistics and safety notes: the course pace limit is 20 minutes per mile. There is no gear check and bags are not permitted inside the start-line corral; participants must leave bags in their vehicles. No shuttles are provided and free parking will be available on race day. Strollers and dogs are permitted only in the 1-Mile Family Fun Run; bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and rollerblades are not allowed on the course. Only bananas and water will be handed out during the event.
Community giving: the event accepts non-perishable food and monetary donations at YMCA locations, at bib/shirt pickup, and on race morning. Since 2020 the YMCA has distributed over 120 tons of food to local neighborhoods. P3R enforces a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination and requires all attendees to comply with event rules.
