YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Turkey Trot presented by UPMC Health Plan
The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Turkey Trot is an annual Thanksgiving Day running event that benefits YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The event offers multiple distances to accommodate different participant preferences:
- 5 Mile
- 5K
- 1 Mile Family Fun Run
- Double Gobble (5 Mile + 5K)
All registered participants receive a race bib and a performance long sleeve shirt designed by Pittsburgh artist Nayan Khanna. Registrants 4 years and younger may participate for free with registration required. Runners aged 5 to 18 receive a 50 percent discount on entry fees. The minimum age for the 5 Mile and Double Gobble is 12 years; there is no minimum age for the 5K and the 1 Mile Family Fun Run. Strollers and dogs are permitted only in the 1 Mile event, with strollers asked to line up at the back of the corral. The course pace limit is 20 minutes per mile.
Participants are encouraged to bring non perishable food donations; donations are also accepted at YMCA locations, at bib and shirt pickup, and on race day. Since 2020 the YMCA has distributed over 120 tons of food to local neighborhoods. The event does not provide gear check and participants should not bring bags into the start line corral. Only bananas and water will be handed out during the event. A zero tolerance policy against discrimination applies to all attendees. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
