Event Overview
The Frostbite 5k Run/Walk is an annual winter event held in Louisville, Kentucky. The race takes place at the Scenic Loop in Cherokee Park, with the start and finish area located at the Rugby Field. This event serves as the second leg of the Polar Bear Grand Prix, a winter series consisting of three races held between December and February.
Participants can choose from the following distances and formats:
- 5k (In-person)
- Virtual 5k
The in-person course follows the Scenic Loop within the park. Due to limited parking at the Rugby Field and along the road, carpooling or parking further along the loop is advised. Participants are requested not to park on the grass to avoid municipal penalties.
Participant Amenities and Awards
Each registered participant receives a finisher medal and a long-sleeve 1/4 zip tech shirt. The medals for all three races in the Polar Bear Grand Prix are designed to fit together to form a larger commemorative piece. Professional race photography is provided for all entrants.
Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in several categories, including overall, masters, and grand masters. Furthermore, age group awards are available for participants ranging from 9 and under to 80 and over. These age group prizes consist of medals that can be attached to the finisher ribbon and function as bottle openers.
Team and Charity Information
A team competition is available for groups of three to five people in male, female, or coed divisions. The fastest three times from each team are used for scoring, and teams can compete across all three Grand Prix events.
The event partners with the Olmsted Parks Conservancy. Participants have the option to fundraise for this organization, and individuals who reach a specific fundraising threshold may receive a refund on their registration fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
