Frost Heave - Jericho State Park
Frost Heave is an approximately 13.1-mile trail race in and around Jericho State Park in Berlin, NH. The event has traditionally been open only to mountain bikers; this year it is also open to trail runners. Participants range from social pacers to competitive racers.
The course runs largely on class IV road that is used by ATVs in the non-winter months, with stretches of smoother terrain mixed in. Expect rugged climbs and descents and muddy sections with puddles where detours are not possible. An aid station is available on course and is staffed by volunteers. Participants are advised to bring a dry pair of shoes and dry clothes for after the race. Post-race offerings include food, beverages, prizes, and raffles along with family-friendly activities. Categories are gender-specific within Under 17, Under 19, Under 35, and Masters. The Frost Heave is a fundraiser for the Coös Cycling Club; 100 percent of proceeds and sponsor dollars support the club’s trail maintenance efforts and active youth cycling programs.
