Froggy Five Mile and Hard as Hell Half Marathon
The event takes place Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Beartown State Forest in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The venue is described as roughly one hour southeast of Albany.
Distances offered:
- Froggy Five (5 miles): difficult trail with very steep sections and tricky footing.
- Hard as Hell Half Marathon (13.1 miles): about 80% dirt road, 15% pavement, 5% trail, with roughly 1,600 feet of elevation gain.
Course notes: runners should expect slower paces than on flat road races—about 1 to 2+ minutes slower per mile than a typical road half marathon pace. The organizer notes hot conditions are possible and asks participants to assume full responsibility for themselves.
13.1 mile cutoffs are given as follows: 4.3 miles - 58 minutes (13:30 pace); 7.7 miles - 1:40 (13:00 pace); 10.7 miles - 2:14 (12:30 pace); overall finish cutoff - 2:50:00 (13:00 pace).
Logistics and policies: free off-site parking is provided 3.5 miles from the event at the Roadside Cafe with a free van ride to and from the start; limited free parking exists inside the forest at occasional pull-offs. The park charges an additional parking fee for non‑Massachusetts residents. Entry fees vary by date; transfers are permitted with a $5 surcharge. No refunds and no deferrals. The organizer characterizes the event as relatively no-frills with minimal extras. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
