Friendship APL 5K & Dog Walk
The Friendship APL 5K & Dog Walk takes place on May 9, 2026 at Bur Oak Pavilion in Elyria, Ohio. The event includes a timed 5K run and an untimed 1 mile dog walk. Shelter dogs may be available to "rent" for the walk on a first come, first served basis; availability depends on the dogs at the shelter and the weather. A suggested donation of $15 to $20 may be requested for rentable dogs.

The 5K awards top three male and female overall finishers and top three in age categories including 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and over. Registered participants who enter by May 1 are guaranteed a race shirt. Post race amenities listed include refreshments and a yoga session led by an instructor from Bliss Mind and Body. Friendship APL is a private, independent 501(c)(3) humane society founded in Elyria in 1957 and operates an animal shelter in Lorain County. One hundred percent of proceeds from the event support Friendship APL's mission. Participants running with dogs are asked to start toward the back, keep dogs on a short leash, and be aware that the route is out and back.
