Friends of Cunningham Falls and Gambrill State Parks 10K
This event takes place in the William Houck Area of Cunningham Falls State Park in Thurmont, Maryland. The courses lead participants through the park during the autumn season, featuring paved surfaces and rolling terrain. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Friends of Cunningham Falls and Gambrill State Parks, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing recreational programs within these Maryland state parks.
Three distinct distances are available for participants:
- 10 km (a double-loop of the paved 5K course)
- 5 km (a paved, rolling course including a section known as "The Hill")
- 1.4 mile (a non-timed Fun Run and Walk located beside Big Hunting Creek Lake)
The 10 km and 5 km events are timed races held on paved roads. The 1.4 mile Fun Run and Walk is designed as a family-friendly route on the pavement. The courses offer views of the fall colors and passing scenery within the park.
Parking is located at the South Beach Circle parking area, accessible via William Houck Drive. The event location is specifically within the lake area and is not situated at the Manor Area or Catoctin Hollow Road. There is no registration available on the day of the event, as all registrations must be completed by the evening prior to the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
