Event Overview
The Freighter Festival of Races is a running event hosted by Yooper Running Company in downtown Sault Sainte Marie. It celebrates the opening weekend of the freighters passing through the Soo Locks at the beginning of the shipping season. This is the event's second annual edition.

The festival includes three events:
- 5K Run
- 5K Walk
- Half Marathon
Course Details
All courses start and finish at a new location: Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours at 515 E Portage Avenue, next to the Pullar Ice Arena and the Museum Ship Valley Camp. The routes run east along the St. Mary's River, offering views of upbound and downbound freighters.
Participant Information
Registration is capped and the event typically sells out with 200-250 participants. All participants receive a unique freighter medal. A long-sleeve event t-shirt is available for an additional fee. Packet pickup is available the evening before the race and on the morning of the event at the start/finish area. Indoor restrooms are available nearby.
Awards are given for overall, masters, grand masters, and various age groups. For the half marathon, there will be five aid stations offering water, Gatorade, and snacks along the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
