The 24th Freedom Run for Epilepsy Awareness

The Freedom Run for Epilepsy Awareness is an annual community event organized by the Epilepsy Foundation of Hawai‘i to support individuals impacted by epilepsy. Hosted at Kailua High School on the island of O‘ahu, the event focuses on raising awareness and providing education to the local community. All proceeds from the event remain in Hawai‘i to support programs such as seizure first aid training, support groups, and advocacy services.

Participants can choose from several event formats:

  • 10K Timed Run
  • 5K Timed Run
  • 1-Mile Awareness Walk

The 10K and 5K distances are chip-timed for adult and youth participants. The 1-Mile Awareness Walk is an untimed activity open to all ages, including those using strollers or mobility aids. Adult registrations for the timed runs include an event shirt while supplies last, and the first 100 keiki registrants receive a special gift.

The event site at Kailua High School features sponsor booths with games and health education. While pets are not permitted on the school campus or at the start and finish lines, the organizers provide a designated nearby cheering area for leashed animals. Specialized activities include a Pet Oasis focusing on pet seizure safety and various costume contests for the most purple attire or best superhero outfits.
