Freedom Run 5K/10K
The Freedom Run 5K/10K is an annual event hosted by Georgia Southern University's Army ROTC program. It serves as the Eagle Battalion's primary fundraiser to support day-to-day activities, ceremonies, training events, and scholarships. A portion of this year's proceeds will benefit a memorial ROTC scholarship.
The event offers both in-person and virtual options and includes child categories. In-person registration and bib pick-up are held Friday, April 23 from 8:30am to 6:00pm and Saturday, April 24 from 6:00am to 7:30am at the Military Science (ROTC) Building. The venue address is 4526 Old Register Rd, Statesboro, GA; participants may park in Lot 42 across from the Military Science building.
Key race details:
- 5K : in-person and virtual; run/walk/crawl and ruck division.
- 10K : in-person and virtual; running only, jogging pace required.
The 5K Ruck division is open to participants aged 13 and older. Competitors must use their own weighted rucksacks, backpacks, or vests and maintain minimum weights at all times (female minimum 30 lbs, male minimum 40 lbs). There will be weigh-ins before and after the race and awards for the top overall male and female finishers in the ruck division.
Walkers are allowed in the 5K but not in the 10K. Well-behaved dogs on a leash no longer than 6 feet are permitted; retractable leashes are not allowed and owners must pick up after their pets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
