Event overview
The 2026 Freedom 5k & Half takes place on July 5, 2026 in Georgetown and at Fletcher’s Boathouse in Washington, DC. The races benefit the charity Operation Enduring Warrior. The event offers an in-person option and a virtual run option. Runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical (Dri-fit) event shirt, and chip timing. Packet pickup is available at the event; participants are asked to arrive 90 minutes before the half or 60 minutes before the 5k to check in. There will be no on-site race registration.

Course and services
Both courses run on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal path. Routes are out-and-back on a light gravel canal trail with minimal elevation change. The half marathon starts and finishes in Georgetown near the Potomac Boat Club. The 5k starts and finishes at Fletcher’s Boathouse. The half course will have seven water stations at approximate mile markers; the 5k course will have one water station. Gatorade will be available at some stations. Portable toilets are provided near the half marathon check-in area and at the facility near the 5k start.
Competition, results and extras
Points from these races count toward the organizer’s Year-Long 5k, Endurance and Back of the Pack series and the Summer Series. Live results will be posted during the race and final results with series points will be posted the Monday after the race. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place in standard age groups; overall top three finishers are not eligible for age-group awards. Registration fees increase after June 15 and race-day fees are higher. Shirts are guaranteed to entrants registered before June 24. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
