Freedom 5k & Half : Georgetown, Washington DC
The Freedom event offers two chip-timed race distances along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal (C&O Canal) path near Georgetown. Both routes are out-and-back on a light gravel canal towpath with minimal elevation change.
- Half marathon: starts and ends in Georgetown near the Potomac Boat Club.
- 5k: starts and ends at Fletcher's Boathouse.
The half marathon course includes seven water stations located at approximate mile markers 2.1, 3.8, 4.3, 6.55, 8.8, 9.3 and 11. The 5k course has one water station near mile 1.55. Gatorade is available at some water stations. Walkers are welcome.
Registered participants receive a finisher's medal, a technical (Drifit) event shirt, and chip timing. Live results are posted on Athlinks and final results with series points are published after the race. Packet pickup is available at the event; runners should allow additional time to check in. There is no on-site race registration. There is a virtual race option for entrants who cannot attend in person.
The event awards the top three men and women overall and age-group awards for 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 plus. Points from this event count toward the Year-Long 5k, Endurance and Back of the Pack Series and the Summer Series. The event benefits Operation Enduring Warrior.
