Freedom Firecracker 5K and 1 Mile, July 4, 2026
The IMDC Freedom Firecracker is a family-friendly 5K and 1 Mile run/walk held at the Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center in Manassas, VA. The event is presented as a festive Independence Day celebration and directs a portion of race proceeds to Hero’s Bridge, an organization serving elderly veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

Registration fees increase in phases: prices listed for through 4/30, through 5/31, and through 7/2. Packet pickup is race day only and takes place inside the gymnasium at the facility. All 5K and 1 Mile participants receive a custom race shirt, medal, custom bib, and a digital finisher’s certificate, and registrants receive a complimentary 8 oz Kona Ice after the event courtesy of IMDC.
The 5K course has a time limit of 60 minutes. Strollers are allowed; dogs are not permitted on the course. The event will provide one water station near the 1.5 mile mark and additional bottled water at the finish. Pacers will be available for 20:00, 25:00, and 30:00 target times. There is no formal awards ceremony; awards are available at race headquarters. The race follows Virginia Department of Health guidance and RRCA best practices, and the course is closed to spectators for safety. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
