Event
The Freedom 5K on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in Huntsville, Alabama, includes a 5K, a 1 Mile (Independence Mile), and a 5K + 1 Mile bundle. The start and finish are at Big Spring Park in downtown Huntsville.
Course and certification
Both courses are USATF certified and sanctioned: the 5K (AL23017JE) and the 1 Mile (AL23018JE). The routes pass through Downtown Huntsville and Old Town.
Registration, kit and logistics
Packet pickup is available at RunningLane (2407 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Race-day packet pickup is near the start/finish on Church Street. The first 1,000 registered participants across the Mile and 5K will receive finisher medals; bundle entries receive one medal. Race singlets are guaranteed for an early group of 5K or bundle registrants; additional RunningLane singlets will be provided if Freedom singlets run out. There are no refunds, credits, deferrals, or transfers, and leftover shirts or medals are not mailed.
Awards, volunteers and extras
Both the 5K and the 1 Mile will have awards. Age-group awards (top 3) are as listed for each event: 5K age groups 0-9, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+; Mile age groups 0-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. Volunteers who work specified shifts receive entry credits for future RunningLane events. The event will offer kid activities including free balloon twisters and free face painting.
