Event overview
The Fred Hughes 10 mile is a local road race organised by the St Albans Striders running club since 1985. It is held on the rolling country lanes of Bedmond in St Albans and is presented as a race that can be used to start spring marathon training or as a step up from 10k distances. For 2026 the race also hosts the Hertfordshire Senior County Championships. The event is scheduled for 18 January 2026.
Entries and eligibility
Entry is open to people aged 18 and over on the event date. A waiting list is in operation. The advertised entry fee ranges from £23 to £25.
Location and practical information
Race headquarters is at St Columba's College, King Harry Lane, St Albans AL3 4AW. Parking at the race HQ is limited; marshals will direct vehicles on the day. There is public pay and display parking at Westminster Lodge (AL1 2DX), a short walk from the HQ and the race start. Train stations and walking distances listed are St Albans Abbey (0.5 mile, about a 12 minute walk) and St Albans City (1.5 miles, about a 30 minute walk).
