Freeland Freaky 5's : Dig Deep Races
Freeland Freaky 5's is a Halloween running event held at Hayes Park in Freeland, Michigan on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The event uses the newest section of the Great Lakes Bay Regional Trail and features professionally timed and untimed running options.
Race distances offered:
- 5 Mile Run timed and scored
- 5K Run/Walk timed and scored
- Casual 5K Run/Walk untimed
- Kid's 1 Mile Fun Run untimed, for youth 13 and under
All races begin and end on the Great Lakes Regional Trail in front of Hayes Park. The courses are out-and-back, briefly parallel Old Midland Road, pass Pine Grove Cemetery, then turn toward the Tittabawassee River onto an open, winding trail with no vehicle crossings. Participants turn around at their respective halfway points and return to the start/finish arch.
The event is USATF sanctioned for the timed races and provides professional timing results. Finishers receive custom finisher medals, with glow in the dark medals noted as part of the event. A long sleeve performance race shirt is available for registrants who choose the shirt option; shirts are guaranteed only to those who register for that option by the registration deadline of October 25.
Additional features include adult and youth costume contests with gift certificate prizes, a post-race giveaway basket drawing, and overall awards three deep for male and female top finishers in the 5 Mile and 5K events.
