37th Annual Four on the Fourth : Steilacoom
The event takes place in Steilacoom, Washington, at Steilacoom Town Hall and includes a 4 Mile race and a 1 Mile Kids race. The course is a USATF certified, sanctioned road course with electronic chip timing. It runs out-and-back along the waterfront and is described as scenic and mostly flat. Pets are not allowed on the course for safety.
Registrations are accepted on the day of the event for an additional charge of $5. Event shirts are available for purchase during online registration until June 30. Awards are distributed immediately after finishing; the 4 Mile awards include medals for first overall male and female and ribbons for the top three in each gender and age group. Age groups begin at 0-9 and 10-14, then continue in five-year spans from 15-19 up through 100+. In the 1 Mile Kids race every child receives a finisher ribbon and a small USA flag. Gift cards are awarded for the most patriotic attire.
The event supports local youth running programs by providing funds for shoes and uniforms and offers a college scholarship for a graduating senior. A street fair, parade, and fireworks are scheduled to follow the races. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
