It features a lake swim, a scenic road bike on country roads and a trail run. The race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and requires either an annual or one-day USAT license. The field will be limited to 300 athletes in 2027. Each competitor receives a swim cap, post-race refreshments and a custom Folsom Lake Triathlon Runners Hat. Commemorative race t-shirts are available for $20 when ordered before May 2, and finisher medals can be pre-ordered for $15 before April 2.
Distances include:
- Folsom Lake Int'l Tri: 1.5K swim - 40K bike - 10K run
- Aquabike: 1.5K swim - 40K bike
The swim starts from the beach on a triangular buoyed course and exits to a transition area in the parking area. Wetsuits are recommended. The run combines single track, pavement and fire road. Aid stations are located in transition and at miles 1, 2, 3 and 5 on the run, offering cold water, Hammer energy gels and an electrolyte beverage. Equipment rules note that swim fins and snorkels are not allowed, helmets must be worn and buckled while on the bike, and listening devices are prohibited. Packet pickup is available on race morning at the race site.
Divisions include five-year age groups for the Olympic triathlon, ten-year age groups for aquabike, and relay divisions by Male, Female and Coed. Awards are given to overall top finishers and age-group placings. TBF Racing operates the event and maintains a no-refund policy; pre-race credits and transfers have specific fees and time limits.
