Folsom Lake International Triathlon
The Folsom Lake International Triathlon takes place at Granite Beach within the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. Established in 2012, this event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and is limited to 300 athletes. Participants can choose between two main multisport formats:
- International Triathlon: Features a 1.5 km swim, a 40 km bike ride, and a 10 km run.
- Aquabike: Consists of a 1.5 km swim and a 40 km bike ride.
The swim portion is a triangular course in Folsom Lake, where water temperatures typically range between 54 and 68 degrees. Due to these temperatures, wetsuits are recommended for all competitors. The transition area is located in the parking area adjacent to the beach.
The biking segment follows a scenic route on country roads, while the run course utilizes a mix of single-track trails, pavement, and fire roads. Aid stations are positioned in the transition area and at miles 1, 2, 3, and 5 of the run, providing water, energy gels, and electrolyte drinks.
Registered athletes receive a swim cap, a custom runners hat, and post-race refreshments. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, and three-deep in five-year age groups for the triathlon. The aquabike division recognizes the top five male and female overall finishers. Relay options are available for male, female, and coed teams in the triathlon distance.
