Event Overview
The Flora-Bama's 13th Annual Beach Run/Walk for America's Warriors takes place on the white sand beaches along the Gulf of Mexico, behind the Flora-Bama Lounge in Pensacola, Florida. The event features two distances, both run entirely on the sand: a half marathon and a 5K.
Course Details
The courses are held on the beach. The half marathon heads east into Florida, starting and ending at the Flora-Bama for a total of 13.1 miles. The 5K heads west into Alabama for 2.5 kilometers before turning around to finish at the Flora-Bama. Maps are provided for distance reference only.
Beneficiary
One hundred percent of the registration fees for both races are donated to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF). This foundation provides full scholarship grants, educational counseling, and family counseling to the surviving children of special operations personnel from all branches of the military who lost their lives in the line of duty, as well as immediate financial assistance to severely wounded personnel and their families.
Post-Race and Honoree
A post-race breakfast buffet is provided for all participants, along with two complimentary draft beers for those 21 and over, or non-alcoholic beverage options. A special tribute ceremony will be held after the race to honor Army Master Sergeant George A. Fernandez, who lost his life in 2003 in northern Iraq, with his family in attendance.
Registration Details
Packet pickup and last-minute registration occur at the Flora-Bama under a tent on Friday before the race and on race morning for specific time windows. The first 400 registrants receive an event T-shirt. All half marathon finishers receive a medal, as do the first 300 finishers in the 5K. According to Florida law, a 7.5% sales tax is added to all entries. Race entries are non-refundable and non-transferable. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
