Flo-Town 5K Run/Walk
The Flo-Town 5K Run/Walk is an annual event organized through a partnership between the City of Florence Employee Wellness Program and the Florence Track Club. The 3.1 mile certified course is held in East Florence, utilizing the Florence Trail System's Freedom Florence Connections. The race proceeds benefit the Florence Track Club.
The route features a natural path through wooded areas adjacent to Jeffries Creek. Participants navigate a variety of terrains, including natural trails, boardwalks, and a bridge passing over the southern wall of the historic Florence Stockade. The course circles the Freedom Florence pond and crosses through an area that formerly served as a Civil War prisoner-of-war camp. The path also loops around an open broom straw field where guard posts and rifle pits were historically located.
The event is held at the City of Florence Regional Waste Water Management Facility. The administrative building at this site is LEED® Certified and provides participants with access to restrooms and showers. While the event is open to strollers, the trail includes sections that may be difficult to navigate with them. Participants are permitted to use headphones during the run. Dogs are also allowed on the course, provided they are leashed and well-socialized.
Awards are presented for the following categories:
- Top male and female overall finishers
- Top male and female masters finishers
- Top 3 male and female finishers in 13 age groups from 9 and under to 70+
- Top 3 canine finishers
Participants who register by the designated early deadline are guaranteed an event t-shirt in their preferred size. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
