FLATS Trail Half Marathon
The FLATS Trail Half Marathon is a point to point half marathon held in Kirksville, Missouri, that uses trails in the Forest Lake Area Trail System. The course runs mostly on singletrack alongside a lake and includes roots, rocks, water crossings, and wooded views typical of fall foliage.
Runner support includes seven aid stations placed at approximately miles 1.5, 3.2, 5.2, 7.9, 9.85, 11.3, and 12.5. Aid stations provide water, sports drink, snacks, and gels. The finish area supplies water, sports drink, soft drinks, pizza, and additional snacks. Runners are encouraged to carry calories or a hydration system and may refill bottles at aid stations.
Awards include prize money for first through third overall in the female, male, and nonbinary categories and commemorative pint glasses for the top three in each age group. Prize amounts for overall placings are published by the event. Age groups run from 19 and under up to 70 and over in ten year bands.
Logistics note that packet pickup is available before race day at the ATSU Thompson Campus Center and on race morning at the Thousand Hills State Park Marina. Because the course is point to point, a shuttle runs between the finish at Jackson Stables and the start at the marina. One gear bag per runner will be transported from start to finish.
The event states inclusive policies including nonbinary registration with equal podiums and prize money, participation in the Trail Mix Fund, adoption of Trail Sisters standards, expectations of respectful conduct, and a rain or shine policy with safety-based adjustments possible.
