FLATS Trail Half Marathon - Kirksville, MO

The FLATS Trail Half Marathon is a point to point trail race scheduled for October 3, 2026 in Kirksville, Missouri. The event is a fundraiser for the Forest Lake Area Trail System and supports trail building and maintenance in Adair County.

The course is primarily single track and forested trail alongside a lake, with rocks, roots, and hills. The route is carefully marked and supported by volunteers. There are seven aid stations located at approximately miles 1.5, 3.2, 5.2, 7.9, 9.85, 11.3, and 12.5; water, sports drink, snacks, and gels are provided along the course. Runners are encouraged to carry calories and a hydration system or bottles that can be refilled. The finish area offers water, sports drink, soft drinks, pizza, and snacks.

Logistics reflect the point to point layout: a shuttle service transports runners from the finish at Jackson Stables to the start at the Thousand Hills State Park Marina, and one gear bag per runner will be delivered from the starting line to the finish. Pre-race packet pickup is available the day before at the ATSU Thompson Campus Center and again on race morning at the marina.

Awards include equal prize money for first through third place in the female, male, and nonbinary categories and commemorative pint glasses for top age group finishers. Age groups begin at 19 and under and continue by decade up to 70 and over. Documented course records are women 1:31:19 (2017) and men 1:20:51 (2022).

The event includes equitable registration options, nonbinary categories with equal podiums and prize money, and participation in fee assistance programs aimed at increasing access for underrepresented runners. Runners are expected to respect others on course and follow standard trail etiquette. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
