The course is primarily single-track and features a variety of terrain, including hills, rocks, roots, and water crossings. The race begins with approximately 1.5 miles on the road to allow the field to spread out before entering the trail system.
Participants navigate a carefully marked route that includes seven well-stocked aid stations located at the following intervals:
- Mile 1.5
- Mile 3.2
- Mile 5.2
- Mile 7.9
- Mile 9.85
- Mile 11.3

The event concludes with a post-race celebration at Jackson Stables featuring food and live music. As a point-to-point race, a shuttle service is provided to transport runners from the finish line parking area to the starting line at the Marina. A gear drop service is also available to move personal belongings from the start to the finish.
Proceeds from the race support the Forest Lake Area Trail System for trail maintenance and building in Adair County. The event offers equal prize money and awards across female, male, and nonbinary categories.
