Run for Local Trails
The Uncle Sam 5K Run & 1.2 Mile Walk/Run is an annual sporting event held in Kirksville, Missouri. Taking place during the local Red, White, and Blue Festival, the race serves as a fundraiser for the Forest Lake Area Trail System (FLATS). The event starts and finishes at the Dukum Inn Bar & Grill.
The course leads participants through the streets of Kirksville. The route is primarily flat but includes some gentle hills. Participants can choose between two different distances:
- 5K run
- 1.2-mile run/walk
Registered participants receive a commemorative T-shirt and access to post-race refreshments. Following the event, an awards ceremony is held at the Dukum Inn where door prizes are also distributed. Plaques are awarded to the fastest overall male and female finishers in the 5K and the top finisher in the 1.2-mile event. Medals are provided to the top three finishers in several age divisions, ranging from 19 and under to 60 and over.
The event is held regardless of rain, though severe weather may result in a delayed start or a modified course. Packet pickup is available on the day prior to the race at the Thompson Campus Center or on the morning of the event at the start line.
