Five Rivers Ultra
The Five Rivers Ultra is an ultra-endurance event taking place along the coastline of North Essex and South Suffolk. The course utilizes established long-distance footpaths, including large sections of the King Charles III England Coast Path and National Trail signage. The route passes through the Dedham Vale and the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Participants traverse a flat course consisting of more than 85% grass or dirt trails. The 100-mile route circumnavigates five coastal estuaries, while the shorter distances also follow coastal estuary paths. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UK Athletics Rules. It is recognized as a UTMB 100M index event.
Available distances include:
- 100 miles: A point-to-point route starting in Blaxhall with a 32-hour cut-off.
- 50 miles: A point-to-point route starting in Trimley with a 24-hour cut-off.
- 50 km: A point-to-point marked route starting in Shotley with a 9-hour cut-off.
The 100-mile and 50-mile distances are self-navigated using GPX files. All participants finish in Harwich, where facilities include a rest area with bunk beds and hot food. The organizers provide indoor checkpoints with hot food and drinks, a drop bag facility, and live tracking through Open Tracking. Finishers receive a technical t-shirt and a unique memento. Optional transport to the 100-mile start line is available from the finish location. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
