Fitger's 5K

Fitger's 5K is an annual 5K road race organized by the Young Athletes Foundation in Duluth, Minnesota. The event is held in mid April and uses a USATF certified course (code MN26003MAB) with start and finish at the Fitger’s Complex, 600 East Superior Street. This edition is listed as the 38th annual race and the field is capped at 1,300 participants on a first come, first served basis.

Entry fees for adults follow a tiered structure and youth entries ages 18 and under are free. Online registration continues as space allows and packet pickup is available at the Fitger’s Complex in the days before and on race day. The race is part of the Young Athletes Foundation series and the KP Challenge offering a combined entry option for multiple YAF races.

The event includes several sustainability measures: a bike valet near the finish area, reusable cups at water stations, a water trailer for refilling reusable bottles, regionally sourced post race refreshments with recyclable or compostable packaging, and an option to skip the participant shirt in favor of planting a tree through a partnership with a local reforestation nonprofit.

Race rules require Walk Division participants to walk the entire course. Pets, unregistered participants, motor vehicles and certain wheeled devices are not allowed on the course. Baby joggers and strollers are permitted but must start at the back. Finishers receive a commemorative medal and all registered participants receive a long sleeve shirt; commemorative socks are available for purchase.
