The event takes place on July 4, 2026, at Rockford Tower on Lookout Drive in Wilmington, DE. This is the 40th edition of the Firecracker 5k. Day-of-race registration is available. Distances offered:

Event details
Standard 5K registration and the competitive walking 5K are listed at $39.03 for the registration window shown (Jan 1 - Jul 4). Prices are inclusive of mandatory charges and fees. The competitive walking category requires participants to walk the entire race; running or jogging is not allowed in that category. Runners who plan to run and walk must register in the 5K run/walk category.
Amenities include unisex tee shirts for the first 175 participants, post-race refreshments and music, hot dogs, and Playa Bowl samples. A course map is provided by the organizer. Timing is handled with chip timing using the MYLAPS BibTag system. Top finisher awards for overall and masters are scored by gun time; all other age groups are scored by chip (net) time. Awards are given to overall male/female, overall masters male/female, top 3 in 10-year age groups from 13 & under through 70 & over, and top 3 male/female walkers. Results will be posted online during and after the event.
Race policies note no dogs due to insurance liability, bibs are non-transferable, and there are no refunds on registrations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
