40th Firecracker 5k Run Walk
The 40th Firecracker 5k Run Walk is scheduled for July 4, 2026 at Rockford Tower on Lookout Drive in Wilmington, DE. The event offers a standard 5K run/walk and a separate competitive walking 5K that requires participants to walk the entire course; running or jogging is not permitted in the competitive walking category. Day of race registration is available.
Registration fees are listed for the 5K and for the competitive walking category. Sponsorship levels are offered, including $250, $500, and $1,000 options (fees shown in the registration details).
Timed results are captured with chip timing using the MYLAPS BibTag system. Overall and masters awards are scored by gun time; all other age-group awards use chip (net) time. Awards include top overall male and female, top masters male and female, top three male and female in ten-year age groups from 13 and under through 70 and over, and awards to the top three male and female walkers.
Amenities for participants include commemorative shirts for the first 175 entrants in unisex sizing, post-race refreshments and music, hot dogs, and Playa Bowl samples. A course map is provided by the organizers. Policies note that no dogs are allowed on the course due to insurance liability, bibs are non-transferable, and registrations are non-refundable.
