40th Firecracker 5k Run Walk
The 40th Firecracker 5k Run Walk takes place on July 4, 2026, in Wilmington, Delaware. The event is held at Rockford Tower on Lookout Drive. This long-standing tradition is organized in memory of Frank D. Vari Sr., a past president of the Council for the City of Wilmington.
Participants can choose from the following event categories:
- 5k run or walk for general participants.
- Competitive Walking 5k specifically for those who walk the entire distance without running.
The event features chip timing provided by the MYLAPS BibTag Timing System. Awards are presented to the top male and female finishers, top masters, and the top three finishers in ten-year age groups ranging from 13 and under to 70 and over. There are also awards for the top three male and female competitive walkers.
The first 175 participants receive 40th-anniversary shirts in unisex sizing. Post-race activities include music and refreshments such as hot dogs and Playa Bowl samples. Registration is available on the day of the race, though bibs are non-transferable and refunds are not provided. Due to insurance requirements, dogs are not permitted on the course.
