28th Annual Firecracker 5K, McLeansboro, IL
The event takes place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in McLeansboro at 450 E Hull Street, behind Hamilton County East Side School. Proceeds benefit the Hamilton County Cross Country Team. The race starts and finishes in the same general area.

The course is described as an all-asphalt route that is very flat except for two moderately hard hills. Awards are given to the top three runners, male and female, in standard age groups and overall awards are presented to the top two men and women. A $50 prize is offered for record-breaking performances in the 5k run or walk. The top three walkers receive awards and winners in ten-year age groups are recognized. Each finisher in the Kid's 1/2 mile fun run (ages 10 and under) receives a finisher's award.
Registration fees include a shirt for most options: $25 for 5k registrations postmarked on or before June 20, $30 for 5k registrations postmarked after June 20 or on race day, and $15 for the Kid's Fun Run.
