The 28th Annual Firecracker 5k takes place on Saturday, July 4, 2026 in Mc Leansboro, Illinois. The event is held behind Hamilton County East Side School at 450 E Hull St, with the race start and finish in the same general area. The event proceeds benefit the Hamilton County cross country team. Details
Packet pickup is available on race day at the race site. Registration fees include a shirt option. The 5k fee is $25 if postmarked on or before June 20 and $30 if postmarked after that date or paid on race day. The Kid's Fun Run fee is $15. The Virtual 5k fee is $20. A T-shirt only option is listed at $15. Some registration items have late or event-weekcutoff dates listed on the event page.
The course is described as all asphalt, very flat except for two moderately hard hills. Awards are given to the top three male and female runners in each age group and overall awards to the top two males and females. Walkers receive awards for top places, and each finisher in the Kid's Fun Run (ages 10 and under) receives a finisher's award. A $50 prize is offered for record-breakers in the 5k run/walk.
