Firebolt 5k and Race of 100 Harrys
The Firebolt 5K and Race of 100 Harrys are hosted by Blue Ridge CASA for Children in Staunton, Virginia, with both in-person and virtual participation options. The in-person races take place at Gypsy Hill Park and use a paved loop described as fairly flat and fast. The event is part of the Queen City Mischief and Magic festival area and the park is about a one-mile walk from downtown festival activities.
Participants receive themed items tied to this year's design: every participant shirt matches the new Luna Lovegood inspired medal color, and house-color bibs allow runners to represent their house. The Race of 100 Harrys is a short children’s race of about 1 km and includes a Luna inspired medal and children's t-shirt. Virtual registrants receive the event shirt and finisher medal by mail and may upload their run or walk time by the event deadline to contribute to house scoring.
A timed race only option is available for late registrants; this option includes a race bib and professional chip timing but does not include a shirt or medal. Packet pickup is offered the day before at the Blue Ridge CASA office, 119 W. Frederick St, Staunton, VA. Festival activities near the race include free rides on the Gypsy Hill Express mini train, a 9 3/4 platform photo opportunity, free duck and fish food while supplies last, and restrooms and picnic shelters along Constitution Drive. The event is scheduled rain or shine and medals will be available for pick up at the Blue Ridge CASA office if the event cannot proceed safely.
