Fighter 5k
The Fighter 5k is a single lap running event held at Great Massingham Airfield, a former RAF station. Organized by the West Norfolk Athletic Club, the race takes place on the perimeter track and runways of the airfield. The course features a flat, fully run-able concrete surface.
This is an England Athletics licensed event with an officially measured course. Participants receive chip timing for immediate results. Because the race is held on private land at Leicester House Farm, practice runs on the course are not permitted before the event.
Available distances:
- 5 km (minimum age 11)
The event serves as a fundraiser for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Purfleet Pantry, a local social supermarket. All finishers receive a unique military-style sew-on patch and refreshments after crossing the line.
Cash prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers. Additionally, a bonus is available for breaking the male or female course records. Winners in specific age categories, ranging from Under-17 to over 65, receive free entry to the following year's race.
Parking is provided on the old main runway, and participants are directed to the site from Great Massingham. The airfield is a no-drone zone, and the course is not suitable for wheelchair racers. While spectators may bring dogs, dogs are not permitted to accompany runners on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
