Fighter 5k : Great Massingham Airfield, 17 May 2026

The Fighter 5k is a single-lap, officially measured 5 km race held on the former RAF Great Massingham airfield with permission from Leicester House Farm. The course uses the airfield perimeter track and runways and is surfaced with fully run-able concrete. Chip timing is used to provide immediate results.

The event is a grass roots race organised by volunteers from West Norfolk Athletic Club and held under an England Athletics licence (permit 30541, course number 24/515). It is intended for runners aged 11 and over. The race is not suitable for wheelchair racers. No recce runs are permitted on the private land and drones are not allowed. Dogs may not accompany runners but are permitted for spectators. Participants and spectators are asked to keep the airfield clean.

The race raises funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and supports the local Purfleet Pantry. In 2025 the event raised £500 and the organisers aim to raise £750 for 2026.

Prizes include cash awards for the top three male and female finishers (1st £40, 2nd £20, 3rd £10) and a £50 course record bonus that can roll over up to £250. Age group winners receive free entry to the following year in specified categories. All finishers receive a sew-on military style patch and welcoming refreshments at the finish. Entries are non-refundable but transfers to another runner are allowed until 09/05/2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
