Fiddlers 5k, Kids Fun Run, and Family Fun Day : Athens State University
The Athens State University Alumni Association hosts a running event that includes a USATF certified 5K on an out and back course that begins and ends at Athens State University. The course is registered as USATF AL23020JE and will pass through the historical district of Athens. The start and finish locations are reversed from previous years: the race will begin in front of Sandridge Hall and end at the sixth lamp post on Beaty Street.
The event also features a kids fun run for ages 3 to 12 on the Athens State campus. Kids will see the university mascot Hebrew the Bear, may decorate their bibs on race morning, and will receive finisher awards and a treat. A family fun day includes a kids fun zone with inflatables, face painting, and hot dogs. Access to the fun zone requires a paid race entry.
Awards for the 5K include overall male and female placements for first through third, masters male and female first through third with masters defined as the first finisher over 40 who is not on the overall podium, and age group awards from 10 to over 70 with first through third places. Entry fees are non refundable and the organizer may postpone or cancel the event for safety or emergency reasons. T shirts are guaranteed for registrations received by August 15, 2026. Packet pickup will be available at the Nazaretian House Welcome Center at Founders Circle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
