About the race
FATS is a trail race on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at the Forks Area Trail System in Sumter National Forest near North Augusta, SC. The event offers the following distances:
- 50K
- Half Marathon
- 10K
The course uses three primary loops named Great Wall, Skinny, and Brown Wave; the Great Wall loop is repeated to complete the 50K. Trails are about 99% single-track, shaded, rolling terrain with rocks and roots. The course will be marked at specific turns and distance markers are placed about every half mile.
Aid stations include two primary locations: the first aid station is crossed three times and the second once. Stations are stocked with fluids, fuel, gels, sodas, a selection of snacks and fruit, and PB&J sandwiches. There are two water-only drops on course. This is a cup-free event; participants are expected to carry their own handheld hydration.
Logistics note limited parking at the start/finish with overflow parking on the forest service road and parking direction on site. Drop bags are allowed at main aid stations but not at Aid Station 2; bags should be labeled with name and bib number. Pets are not permitted at the race. The trails are public-use and runners may encounter mountain bikers or hikers. A wet trail policy is in effect: if the trail race cannot proceed, organizers may move to forest service roads if approved, otherwise the event may be canceled with no refunds and proceeds will be donated to trail maintenance and local organizatons including SORBA CSRA.
