About the Race

The Fat Dog Backyard Ultra is an event following the official Backyard Ultra format. Participants must complete a 6.7056 km lap every hour, starting on the hour, until they fail to finish within the time limit or fail to start the next lap. The last person standing is declared the winner.

The event takes place at Abbotsford Exhibition Park, with the start/finish staging area in the parking lot. The course then links to the Discovery Trail and trails around Clearbrook Park. It features a mix of paved, hard-packed gravel, and dirt surfaces, with no running on public roads.

Participation & Registration

Participation is open to runners aged 18 or older. Registration costs $175 CAD, plus tax and fees. It is capped at 150 participants. No refunds, transfers, deferrals, or waitlists are offered.

Prizing

The winner receives cash prizes. For a race of 39 laps or less, the prizes are $800 for the winner and $500 for their assistant. For 40 laps or more, the prizes are $1000 for the winner and $700 for their assistant.

Qualification Format

As a registered Backyard Ultra Bronze Ticket event, participants can earn a spot at a BC Silver Ticket Event, or a spot on the "At Large List" to be considered for Team Canada at the National Satellite Championships in 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
