Fat Dog Backyard Ultra
Fat Dog Backyard Ultra is scheduled for March 13, 2027 in Abbotsford, BC and is organized by Fat Dog Events. The race follows the certified Backyard Ultra format: participants run a loop of 6.7056 km (4.167 miles) every hour, starting on the hour, and continue until a runner fails to complete a lap within the time limit or does not start the next lap. The last person remaining on course is declared the winner; all other entrants are recorded as DNF.
The course uses the parking area at Abbotsford Exhibition Park for the start and finish staging, then links to the Discovery Trail and trails around Clearbrook Park in central Abbotsford. Surfaces include paved sections, hard-packed gravel and dirt, with no running on roads. The course will be open to the public on race day.
As a Backyard Ultra Bronze Ticket event, participants can earn eligibility for a BC Silver Ticket Event or be placed on the At Large List for Team Canada consideration at the 2028 National Satellite Championships. Winners of silver ticket events receive automatic entry to Team Canada at the 2028 National Championships.
Registration details: entry is CAD 185 plus GST and an UltraSignup fee, minimum age 18 on race day, capped at 175 participants, no refunds, transfers, deferrals or waitlists. All racers receive a piece of racer swag. Cash prizing is tiered by laps completed: up to 39 laps pays $800 winner / $500 assist, 40 or more laps pays $1000 winner / $700 assist.
