Fat Boy NOLA 5K : Event overview
The Fat Boy NOLA 5K is a themed running and community event held at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, Louisiana on May 17, 2026. The main event is a chip-timed 5K that uses weight divisions for awards instead of age groups. Participants must indicate their weight division during registration; first and second place awards are given in each division. A Clydesdale team division requires combined team weight of 650 pounds or greater with weigh in at packet pickup or on race day.
The event includes several novelty contests and short-distance challenges, including a Donut Eating Contest, a 26.2 Foot Marathon, and the Fat Boy 0.0 Mile World Championship. There is a kids dash and a virtual 5K option offered. All participants receive crew socks, a custom finisher medal, chip timing, and post race refreshments provided by sponsors.
Packet pickup is scheduled for Thursday, May 14 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Fleet Feet Metairie, with an additional pickup option on race day. Online registration closes Saturday, May 16 at noon. Entry fees are non-refundable. The event benefits the Dawn Busters Kiwanis Club Reading for Life program and lists multiple local sponsors.
