Event Overview

Fast & Furious 5K is an open water swimming event in Norristown, Pennsylvania. The event offers several distances, each with different starting times. All swims start at 1400 S. Trooper Rd. and pass through the locally known Catfish Dam.

Events and Courses

Participants can choose from the following activities:

  • Fast and Furious 5K Swim: A swim that starts with 0.75 miles upstream before finishing downstream at 1 E. Indian Lane in Port Indian.
  • 1.5 Mile Swim: A fully downstream swim finishing at 1 E. Indian Lane.
  • SwimRun: Combines the 1.5 mile swim with a 1.5 mile run back to the start line.
  • 1K Fun Swim: Passes through Catfish Dam and finishes at 93 W. Indian Lane. This is an untimed event with no awards.

The 1.5 mile and 1K options are noted as being new for this year.

Participant Requirements and Logistics

All swimmers must either have their own kayaker or wear a New Wave Swim Buoy (or equivalent). These buoys will be available for purchase in advance. Swimmers may leave a small bag with personal items at the start line. Participants must arrange their own transportation back from the finish line to the start area, though a transport service is available for an additional fee.

Parking is at 1400 S. Trooper Rd., with instructions provided to walk to the launch area. There are no restrooms at the start line, but they are available at the finish lines. Wetsuits are permitted if the water temperature is below 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

Event Policies

The event has a strict no-refund policy. If canceled, entries will be deferred to the following year's event or another event by the same organizer. The event is held rain or shine, but may be postponed due to lightning or poor water quality from stormwater runoff. The rain date is Sunday, May 3. An awards ceremony for the top three male and female finishers in each timed race is scheduled. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
